Blue Mythologies

In her upcoming exhibition “Blue Mythologies” Amanda Besl creates a botanical universe in a multitude of media including oils, watercolor, botanical contact prints and a short film. The work is inspired by her interests in Victoriana and the natural sciences. Large scale paintings are inspired by locally collected plants and an early form of photography: the cyanotype. Besl’s first foray into film, “Transit of Venus” explores a character from Emily Bronte’s private speculative fiction and the discovery of a lost manuscript by a member of the rock band “The Death Pretzels.”

“Blue Mythologies” opens 9/16 at the gallery Raft of Sanity located at 1255 Niagara Street, Buffalo NY
